Imagine, just for a second, that there is no point in the human race being here, scary isn’t it? No purpose, absolutely none, a minister without portfolio, if you will. We are a species with nothing to drive us but ourselves, which is even scarier?

Why should there be a point? Has everything got a point? Why should they have a point? Who said they do? Religions, that’s who and they have the least subtle ulterior motive for making you think so.

That’s not to say the afterlife doesn’t exist, that’s a common mistake to make, who’s to say it shouldn’t? Just because there is no point, it doesn’t mean we can’t go on being pointless indefinitely, does it?

I am not saying God doesn’t exist, another frequent error. I can’t prove it one way or the other; I am tempted to believe it does, if only because we cannot be the smartest beings in the Universe. If we are, that is not God’s sense of humour, that’s through lack of competition!

If we all thought like this, I am tempted to think that the world would be utter chaos. To a lot of people without Heaven and Hell, there will be no retribution, there will be no consequences for their actions, which is a dangerous mindset for a majority to have. I am sure a lot of people in appalling situations would feel a whole lot more agitated if they weren’t certain they were going to Heaven at the end of it all.

Religion serves a purpose then, often it is people who can’t cant change their circumstances that find a calling in God. Perhaps if more people had control of lives and ability to improve their and other’s existences, we would have less religious power?

People need causes. Maybe the point is to find your point, your calling, your devotion. Whatever it may be. It wouldn’t please many Archbishops but it would help a lot of people find some solace without turning to religions that continue to spread AIDS in Africa by saying using condoms is a sin…

Life should be a learning process, religions often stultify that, don’t do this, don’t try this, don’t listen to them, they are different from us. Listen to us and you will get dozens of virgins in heaven if you die a martyr, the Koran apparently tells us. So, the Lord just changes his mind on sex being with someone you love in heaven and lets you run around feasting on anyone and everyone like a weary, starving traveller in the desert who has stumbled across a cooking barbeque party?!

Religions often take away the ability to think freely, that part of the Koran strongly suggests it was written by a man and a horny man at that! I doubt God is a horny man, I doubt God is a man. Sometimes I doubt he has a gender at all…

Or maybe I am wrong, I am one of God’s tests, don’t follow me, I am a devil with opinions in human form!

Life is a puzzle, it’s the hardest puzzle in the world - there is no answer.

Coming soon to http://www.crooy.co.uk/Jeff.html hopefully! I thought Danny's site needed a plug too!
