Firstly, I'd be glad they hadn't landed in the backyard of someone likely to go out and antagonise them IF they had come in peace.
Let's face it, if they are peaceful, some Alabama redneck shooting at one of their mates/colleagues as soon as they land isn't going to put them in the best of moods!
I think aliens would regard our society as very wasteful and under-developed as they in comparison will have developed vehicles that can travel light years through space.
Whether they'd want to help/force us to change our greedy ways or just lay waste and start again is up for debate.
This is perhaps the reason they haven't arrived yet, why should they bother and what would be the point/benefit for them?*
If they DO come down and don't immediately annihilate us, I'd reckon they would be an intelligent, more peaceful race come to help us, one that doesn't put itself first and ignore all others so I would welcome it.
Having said that, I wouldn't like to be the first to meet them, just in case..!
*Of course, this scenario doesn't mention whether they will be able to survive in our atmosphere and/or whether they would give out something toxic/deadly to us when they come down here.
It also forgets about the obvious problems with communication, given that humans can live a handful of miles from a different language speaking country/area, God knows what Native tongue (if they use a tongue!) that they will converse in.
