Parenting - A Warning..!
Jan. 3rd, 2018 01:20 amSo, I've not been posting/reading much LJ lately, that's because I've not been able to get to a laptop and that's because we have a High Needs Baby:

Travis is an absolute bloody nightmare to get to sleep, it's not his fault or our fault, he's just massively alert and fights it like we're sending him to the gas chamber, not sleepyland.
Some nights involve pacing the front room and kitchen fifty-plus times at multiple points during the night just to send him to sleep again, some nights incorporate him waking up EVERY 45 minutes, others still feature him not sleeping till 1AM or getting up at 6AM, it's been tough and I'm lucky that I am in a relationship where we can talk about important things.
Despite this, we DO love the kid. Most of the time, he is laughing, smiling and an absolute joy to be around; it's just that going to sleep at night has often filled me and Toni with neverending dread, in recent months.
We're getting through this by knowing that it is only a relatively short period of a child's life where he is like this and fingers crossed, this septic portion of it will be over soon.
This is the side of parenting you see omitted from Facebook, it's all "X boy's name/Y's girl name are an angel/so wonderful/dressed as fucking Harry Potter!" It's not real and Toni is posting some absolute dynamite with how ace/soul destroying parenting actually is and getting some wonderful responses, which are also another crutch for getting through this insanity.
All this has proven what I already knew, Facebook is full of people presenting half the picture.
But also and certainly most importantly, it's something you don't need to be a parent to understand, if you choose to have a kid because you think 'you should as everyone else is having one' or if you are doing it to patch up an existing sagging relationship, you are an absolute moron.
