Thank galloping Christ! Now, the news won't be the grim task of sifting through the sodden wreckage of a plane crash in the Atlantic!

Well, it's Council and European MEP election day today in the UK and as I don't have time to do those couple of other Journal posts I want to, I'll do a quick one instead! So, vote if you think anyone deserves it, if they don't, why give them the pleasure?

I would be doing my usual protest vote of spoiling my paper as they don't provide the option to abstain, if I was registered but I can't. Ah well, it won't make any difference until they introduce abstaining or proportional representation, they EVERY vote would count, not just the ones in 'swing constituencies'.

An odd election sight witnessed yesterday was the BNP (British National Party or gang of filthy racist bastards for the US readers out there!) van speeding down Chapel Street, it was draped with spoof pigs to represent the Labour and Tory MPs putting their snouts in the trough! Which is all very amusing but is not something we would have seen a few years ago. I have a bad feeling they will have a pretty successful few days and we'll have no one to blame except the two main parties... I hope not though.

Ok, change of plan! I CAN do those posts!

One more thing about politics, this is great news:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8080777.stm

I can't stand the poisonous little toad known as Hazel Blears. I'm so glad she's gone, Salford needs someone who is not a 'career politician' with all the redevelopment and social change that needs to happen to not make it a shithole that happens to have a 'Mediacity' dumped in the middle of it.

Bear in mind that this is the same Hazel Blears who was handed the 'safe' Labour seat in Bury to get into Parliament, a seat she then lost! So they gave her an even safer location and that worked!

I realise that she will now probably just concentrate on various lucrative directorships that no doubt she will have set up and earn sums of money that 99% of her voters could only dream of.

She can never say she represented the people of Salford, she only represented herself.

Loads of good things happened yesterday, firstly, I passed my theory driving test, scoring 43/50 on the multiple choice test (right on the precipice of failing!) and 55/75, a comfortable pass, on the hazard perception (essentially looking at clips of driving and pointing out when a big truck is going to cut you up!)

So, back to where I was a few months ago! I need to look into booking a practical test, although I'll wait till after the lessons today where I will be doing ALL the manouevres!

Later on in work, I paid the deposit (well Toni put in half!) for the room we're going to live in Chorlton in the shared house and despite all the money going out, I'm not skint! God bless working and the cash it provides!

I'm looking forward to it, the main concern for me is if Toni can settle as in the past she's disliked shared houses with the exception of living with her Nan (although there are very good reasons for the other ones not being successful...) Having said that, I am positive about it!

Then there was eating ice cream and bumping into Neil and Katie in Town and getting to speak to Toni's Mum for a bit, all good!

So, it was a pretty awesome weekend too... after we got over the early unpleasantness!

Nikki left for Australia with her new fella at 4AM this morning, which doesn't feel quite real yet. I'm really sad to see her go and wish I'd seen her more while she was here and convinced Toni to meet her earlier but the last few months have been ace! The unexpected all nighter was a great night! Anyway, I respect her choices and don't blame her for leaving Salford miles behind!

Oh and the Air France plane crash means I'll also be feverishly checking the news stations for plane crashes, as I do when anyone I know boards a plane anywhere in the world!

Her leaving party was good fun while also quite sad at the same time as you realised what is was for but didn't want to go on about it to bring the party down! Danny's inappropriate arm waving in photos and kiss with me while he was wearing a rubber Maggie Thatcher mask will probably encourage her to more leave quickly!

In a frankly shite double booking, Rosie's party was on the same night and after a ride off a really nice scally taxi driver who didn't know where the hell we were going, we got to the house to see not many people dressed up! Booo!

Eventually, we decided to sod it and do it anyway! So you got to see my sexy hairy legs, blue skirt and Maggie face combo! Then lots of gin was consumed, Hazel found some cheese and lots of bizarre photographs were posed for..!

The morning after we had McDonalds, the first meal since the incredibly filling balloon icing on Nikki's cake - that's a meal on its' own! After hanging about for a bit, with Rob still in his tiny dress from the night before, we generously got offered a lift by Jade...

All was going well until we heard a noise and noticed smoke pouring out of the back of the car, at 70mph, the tyre popped! Jade made a wonderfully controlled stop considering, we could see much of the tyres' innards and we were almost skimming along on the wheel trims!

It was even more important to reach a controlled stop as me and Toni didn't have seatbelts on to accommodate the baby seat in the back and we nearly ran out of hard shoulder before a sharp corner!

Thanks to her mate, who came and rescued us when a bizarre wingnut stopped us changing the tyre and we just scraped it to the match in time for me to report and get a suntan(burn!).. Woo!
