I'm posting this before I go back to work after a long weekend for Superbowl and before I grow sick of wanting to talk about my work after work due to not agreeing with much of what I have to advise people.

Obviously, a lot has been said (and rightly so) about all the public sector workers being made redundant thanks to the new Government's spending decisions following the election; that SHOULD be getting a panning in the media.

Another problem that they are handing on to the next government (when they get kicked out!) is the revolution in social (or Council housing) that they are currently initiating.

I have to work on the front line on this (until mine and pretty much everyone else's job whom I work with goes) as the Housing will be run by essentially a private company. Yes, it's a Dr Beeching job on Council Housing, brilliant!

Whether or not this independent Housing Office will do a good job is debatable but the one that is a frontrunner has never broken a profit in its' history and needs Council money to sustain it! What happens if it goes bust?! No Council Housing or money taken from elsewhere..?

Besides that, there is the crazy situation where someone whom is working and owns their own house now is much more likely to be able to get a Council house than someone sleeping on their mate's sofa who has been made redundant 6 months ago!

Only when you become officially homeless are you more likely to get a house!

I'm not against people being rewarded for working but this situation makes most of the cheapest housing out of the reach of those who need it most as workers who aren't paid enough get them instead of those in dire circumstances. The minimum wage should be raised so low wages workers can afford their own homes or private rentals leaving some Council stock available.

Another policy that they are toying with are people can only be given more priority if they have proof that they have been a "good tenant" for 3 years in 1 house, so for instance some kid even one who is working full time but has fallen out with their parents and been kicked out can't get a reference from them as a lodger is at the bottom of the pile!

The latest development has seen all lodgers' evidence, (unless they can prove that they have been paying rent into their relatives' bank accounts for 3 years!) doesn't count!

So, in practice, someone who owns their own house or can afford private rentals is ahead of those unable to get on the housing ladder in the first place! In effect, trapping people with their parents or those who have been kicked out living with friends in that state till they become homeless or get a more well paid job!

It's absolutely insane and is proof that the policy is written by those who have never used or even needed social housing.

I feel so lucky that I can afford to rent privately and not get caught up in the ratrace to get a Council house in Manchester - there are between 30 and 80 houses available every week to the 11,000 people on the list.

Oh and to top it off, tenancies are not for life anymore. By all means, make tenancies able to be cancelled if a person gets an ASBO but removing security for everyone is only going to make people care less about their properties and feel less happy in life.

The whole policy stinks and is only being made worse by people at the top who earn so much they seem to have forgotten what they are actually there for. I feel so sorry for so many people on a daily basis.
