In the latest excerpt of my Creative Writing course, they asked for 350 words, an opening of a book, here's what I came up with (under the cut):

350 peculiar words )

Is it wrong that I envisaged some kind of murderous elves coming out of the ground later on, if the story continued!?

In other news, my creative spark hit me late last night (around 2AM!), so I'm knackered today! I'll try and keep this brief...

There's a LOT of stuff going on behind the scenes at the minute but pieces will hopefully fall into place! Including a very promising secondment being offered at work... It's far from ideal that Toni's mostly been working 200 miles away from Manchester in the deep South of late but I think we appreciate each other more as a result.

The long train journey to and from Brighton at the weekend will also offer me a chance to do some of my course and other writing too, but I'm mostly excited about getting to see Toni (and also check out Brighton!)

Oh and Download coach tickets - http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/line-up/poster - arrived today! Super excited, we'll be setting off in just over a week! Night for now though..!

So how did we all do then?! Apologies for the delays, if you're wondering what this is all about, look at my previous post! It's a guessing game of sorts...

The FACT in part 1 was - "For all the outward confidence I exuded, I still didn’t get a long term girlfriend until after leaving University."

The LIE in part 2 was - "Meeting Dennis Taylor and his god-awful glasses inside a McDonalds at Charing Cross Station."

So, [livejournal.com profile] matheius you don't need to be jealous of me for abusing midgets and you got 1/2 right, [livejournal.com profile] thelma_viaduct got 2/2 right but she really should as she is married to me, [livejournal.com profile] bumblebee you were wrongly tempted by testicles but correctly saw the Dennis Taylor tale as fiction, 1/2, [livejournal.com profile] slender83 also bit the Dennis Taylor bait but was otherwise correct 1/2 and [livejournal.com profile] leylarna, sorry 0/2! Thank you one and all!

Which means that this is REALLY a fact - "All because my first words were ‘Jimmy White.”

Isn't life odd?!

Toni's guided me to this Open University free Creative Writing course, here's the first exercise, write 1 paragraph with 1 fact and 3 lies then another with 3 facts and just 1 lie.

Here's the game, what's the sole fact about me in paragraph 1 and the only lie about me in paragraph 2, got that?! Guesses please, general comments are of course acceptable too!

1 FACT, 3 LIES
“For all the outward confidence I exuded, I still didn’t get a long term girlfriend until after leaving University. During that spectacular time, I had danced naked outside an old folks’ home in the middle of the afternoon, I had snorted a line off a midget’s stomach and I had rested my balls on my best mate’s chin but not one of the entire population of the opposite sex wanted to lie in the same bed as me for long; as Morrissey said at the time, “I must be one of life’s crushing bores.”

3 FACTS, 1 LIE
“I was largely oblivious to snooker, yet it seemed to follow me around like an angry wasp in many strange ways. From my family’s semi-famous sporting history, to meeting Dennis Taylor and his god-awful glasses inside a McDonalds at Charing Cross Station, I feel marked out in some almost demonic way, all because my first words were ‘Jimmy White.”

In other news, I'm about to rip the new Menzingers album from Toni's CD, so am hence very excited!

1. Job - Toni found this great NHS job more to do with the Media/Communications side of things, I worked for ages on the application but as I'm rubbish at selling myself, she said that she'd look over it, then she got a job in London for a fortnight and they shifted the deadline so I missed out, arse! Still chasing the Council about the Career Day last month, they really are shit at answering their e-mails.
2. OCD - Some improvement, some negatives. Much better out and about, pretty bad checking of stuff departing the house, bah!
3. Save some money - As I've been the only one working during most of March, it's been harder but I've not wildly overspent, so that's good!
4. Finish the novel! - Not so good here, I've been writing on the programme... but not on the novel!
5. Skin Tags - Pisspoor here, I'm afraid. I'm running out of Teatree Oil and need to shave the underarm area to see if it's recurred. I sincerely hope it's not.
6. Fix My Groin - Plenty of swimming and the stretching has picked up. I've got that appointment at our local MRI on April 16th and it's definitely necessary as there was a bit of a recurrence this week, shooting groin pains are not fun!
7. Keep off my weight - Sticking with the Slimfast and exercising, I've been a bit more loose on the diet (specifically chocolate birthday presents!) but my medium boardshorts for my birthday are really well fitting, yay!
8. E-mails - Not much progress here, I'm afraid.
9. Reading - I finished off my Louis Theroux book and will be choosing one of my birthday books, I'm thinking this - http://www.jonronson.com/them.html - as it's in a similar vein.
10. Plan ahead better - I got Toni's big birthday present while she was away, she doesn't have a clue and can't possibly buy it in the meantime! Those are clues, if you're reading this, Toni!

So, 7 out of 10 for this month, a reasonable performance!

I've re-read the entire 70,000 words I've wrote in the past and made plans for this Nanowrimo jaunt. I write better when I have a rough plan and let it flow. That's how it worked in 2008 and how it will work in 2013!

So, as I'm at Cook Islands-Tonga at Leigh tomorrow night, it's essentially 25 days to write 50,000 words, or 2,000 a day, I'm still very confident about it (and also sleepy right now!) LJ's been quiet so I've been able to catch up with it as well.

Anyone else besides [livejournal.com profile] raketje and [livejournal.com profile] spiffyfunpants attempting it this year?

Happy Bonfire Night to you all, goodnight!

Life's been very rude and inconsiderate this weekend with regard Nanowrimo, I've got stuff on that I can't avoid. Rugby League World Cup tickets tonight to see Fiji-Australia in St Helens. I bloody love Fiji, they play RL the right way and I'm probably going to see more Fiji games than England games in this tournament, ha!

Having said that, I've managed to read through the 43 chapters of my novel I've already written and I'm content with it as a basis. I've dug out the document listing my future ideas and plot points and will be adding to them. I'm genuinely excited about this!

Toni's out doing a passplus course driving, I'm super proud of her for confronting her fears with driving. I know I had a mild inner-conflict about going on the Motorway at first but once overcome, I unashamedly love driving now.

Back to reading 'my baby'..!
